Story
The Citronaut was the first mascot of Florida Technological University, which later became the University of Central Florida. The Citronaut paid tribute to Florida's annual production of over 100 million boxes of citrus fruits and the university's association with NASA, the Kennedy Space Center, and the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. The Citronaut appeared on the first-ever student handbook in 1968 but only lasted one year before students petitioned the university's student government to establish a new mascot for the university.
