Story

By most accounts, the first night baseball game was played on Nantasket Beach in Hull, Massachusetts on September 2, 1880, the year after Edison perfected the light bulb. The game was organized by the Northern Electric Company of Boston but the lights were too weak, causing many errors. For the next 50 years, there were only a handful of night games until Kansas City Monarchs' owner, J.L. Wilkinson, partnered with Omaha's Giant Manufacturing Company to construct a portable lighting system, which took two hours to assemble and used fifteen gallons of gasoline every hour. After the advent of night games, attendance grew from 3,000 to 15,000. This classic tee pays tribute to Wilkinson's portable lighting system and the Kansas City Monarchs night games!
